Pet Microchipping
Microchipping Saves Lives
A Pet microchip is a tiny device — about the size of a grain of rice — that can make the biggest difference in your pet’s life.
If your pet ever becomes lost or injured, their microchip gives them the best chance of being reunited with you quickly and safely.
At My Kind of Vet, we can scan, check, and update your pet’s microchip information to make sure everything is current and accurate.
Why It’s So Important to Keep Details Up to Date
A microchip is only useful if the contact details linked to it are correct.
Every week, pets end up at shelters or pounds with outdated contact information — meaning their families can’t be reached, even though they’re chipped.
We regularly help clients update phone numbers, addresses, and ownership details to keep their registration active and traceable.
Keeping your chip details up to date can literally save your pet’s life.
How to Check Your Pet’s Microchip
If you’re not sure where your pet’s microchip is registered, visit:
This free national lookup tool will tell you which company holds your pet’s registration (for example, Central Animal Records or Australasian Animal Registry).
Once you know which database your pet is on, you can log in and check or update your contact information directly.
NSW vs National Database
If your pet was registered in New South Wales, their microchip may be listed on the NSW Pet Registry, which is separate from the national database.
That means if your pet travels or relocates interstate, their details might not appear in a national search.
We recommend having your pet listed on both the NSW registry and a national database, so they can be identified anywhere in Australia.
If you’re unsure where your pet’s details are held, our team can check for you and guide you through updating or linking the registration.
When You Get a New Pet
All new pets are legally required to be microchipped by the breeder or seller before they go to their new home.
When you adopt or buy a pet:
-
Ask for their microchip number and registration paperwork.
-
Make sure you complete the transfer of ownership to your name as soon as possible.
-
Double-check that your contact details are correct and appear on a national registry.
We can help you confirm your pet’s registration, process ownership transfers, and update records during a clinic visit.
