Canine Health Preventatives

The most important approach to health is prevention, which is the key ingredient of any recipe to avoid disease and illness in any living being. In pets, prevention of severe conditions is also essential because it avoids extra costs with veterinary care and hospitalization.

Nowadays, technology in medicine and veterinary medicine has allowed the manufacture of many products, such as vaccinations and worming tablets, that promotes longevity and quality of life. For example, parvovirus and heartworm disease were very common deadly conditions that now can be easily prevented.

Most vets use standard protocols, such as annual vaccinations and commercial dry food as a standard of care. We aim better than that!

Every pet is a single individual and this is why we provide individualized treatment to your pet.​

Our recommendations

Vaccination Protocol
  • 6-8 Weeks: C3* vaccination (Core vaccination)
  • 10-12 Weeks: C3* + CC** vaccination
  • 14-16 Weeks: C3*
  • Yearly: KC vaccination
  • Triennial: C3 vaccination (or titre test annually)

* C3: Parvovirus, Distemper and Hepatitis

** CC: Canine Cough (Parainfluenza, Bordetella Bronchiseptica, Adenovirus Type II)

Titre Testing
  • Tests for Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus (Core vaccination)
  • Only tests the immunity the dog has at the moment of sampling, so we don’t know how long it’ll take to drop the titre, so not recommended to be done in puppies
  • We recommend it to be done annually
Intestinal Worm Prevention – Drontal
  • At 2 weeks, at 4 weeks and at 8 weeks of age
  • Monthly from 3 to 6 months of age
  • Every 3 months (every Quarter)
Ticks and Fleas Prevention Protocol – Nexgard
  • From 3 months of age: Monthly – Nexgard
Heartworm Prevention Protocol – Proheart 12
  • 3 months: ProHeartSR-12 injection (with 2nd or 3rd puppy vaccination)
  • 9 months: ProHeartSR-12 injection
  • 15 months: ProHeartSR-12 injection (with first Adult vaccination)
  • Yearly: ProHeartSR-12 injection (with vaccination)
Desexing

Varies between breeds. We usually recommend after 6 months of age, but we plan time of desexing according to breed and behaviour, at the time of the 3rd puppy vaccination.

Microchipping

Legal requirement in Queensland since July 2009. At 6 weeks of age.
